Yesterday, the UN found that Australia was guilty of almost 150 violations of International Law as a result of our treatment of refugees and asylum seekers.
At present, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd still thinks that Manus Island is a viable solution for asylum seekers trying to reach Australia. Because, as this video from GetUp shows, it’s a renovator’s dream.
With an extension here and a coat of paint there, Manus Island will be the perfect place to house some of the world’s most vulnerable people… Not.

The French as she is spoke in the video refers to the 'coup de gras', which means 'fat blow'. The filmmakers in their innocence were probably thinking of 'coup de grace' - but that would also be wrong, because 'coup de grace' means 'death blow'. What they really meant, but didn't even come close to, was 'pièce de résistance', the most outstanding item or feature.

I'm not sure if we should be looking at "boat people" as guests. They were not invited, therefore I don't consider them to be guests. I do however believe suitable housing should be provided. But when we are spending millions on "boat people" and ignoring our own I have to wonder about the future of Australia.

Who of our own is being ignored? There are poor and people in trouble in Australia but that doesn't mean they are being ignored, it's means the questions and answers are hard.
