Today, in good news: a stranger's act of kindness to an elderly shopper.

Time for some good news, ladies and gents.

Because while it may not seem like it sometimes, there are some genuinely selfless people in the world.

People like a mystery man from the NSW Central Coast.

A shopper named Luke Boyce-Taylor noticed the gentleman paying for groceries at a Coles supermarket in Wyoming, groceries that belonged to the elderly customer in front of him at the register.

Listen: How to be kinder to yourself and others. (Article continues after podcast.)

According to Boyce-Taylor, the woman’s card had been declined several times when the kindly gentleman stepped in.

“She wanted to pay him back eventually and he just said, ‘Don’t worry, have a good day’,” he wrote via Twitter.

The Wyong man’s tweet has since earned more than 460 likes, 140 re-tweets and dozens of comments from people praising the unidentified father’s act of kindness.

“Absolute champion,” wrote one follower. “Should be more people like him in this world. If we all knew how to give, think of how amazing life would be?”

“The world, while seemingly drowning in paranoia and hate, just keeps giving,” wrote another. “Thanks for sharing.”

And this: “He deserves a longneck!”

Make that a six-pack.

I was once in line behind a young mum who was asking the checkout operator to take several items out because she didn't think she had enough funds in her account to cover the total. Turned out she still didn't. She asked him to wait while she went to see if she could find some more cash in her car.
While she was gone I told him to put back the discarded items and I paid for the lot. He told me she was a regular customer who often struggled but was a nice person who always tried to do the right thing.
I asked him to tell her I'd done it because my family live a long way away and I don't often get to help them out. It made me feel good 😊

My dad did this too many years ago. Young mum at the checkout, card declined. Dad paid her for her whole trolley and told her to return the favour to someone else down the track.

I did that once to a young woman and she was so embarrassed she left the store and all her stuff. Whoops.
