UPDATE:

Isidro Garcia was charged overnight with five felony counts, including forcible rape, kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, and three counts of lewd acts on a minor.

Garcia faces up to 19 years in prison in total if convicted, the LA Times reports.

Mamamia previously reported:

She was just 15 when her mother’s live-in boyfriend allegedly began sexually abusing her in their California family home.

In August, 2004, two months after the abuse began, Isidro Garcia allegedly drugged and kidnapped the teenager.

What happened next defies comprehension.

Garcia, who lives in Bell Gardens in the Los Angeles suburbs, allegedly held the girl against her will for 10 years — and during that hellish decade, forced her to marry him at 18 and to bear his child at 23.

Miraculously, Garcia’s alleged victim, now a 25-year-old woman, has escaped.

Garcia himself was arrested on Tuesday and faces charges of kidnapping, committing lewd acts with a minor and rape charges.

Further details of the horrifying 10-year encounter were revealed in a statement by Santa Ana police.

The statement alleges that following the kidnapping, Garcia drove the girl to a house in Compton — a rough south Los Angeles neighbourhood — where he gave her false identification documents and locked her in a garage.

He secured employment for both of them in a night cleaning service “so he could keep a close eye on the victim,” according to the police.

Garcia, who allegedly “frequently physically and sexually assaulted the victim” while she was held captive, told the girl that her family had given up looking for her and threatened that if she called the authorities they would be deported.

“Even with the opportunity to escape, after years of physical and mental abuse, the victim saw no way out of her situation and lived a life with Garcia under sustained physical and mental abuse,” the police said.

The victim, whose identity has not been revealed, reportedly gained the courage to contact the police after communicating with her sister on Facebook.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is currently screening the case.
