Last year we had a wizz bang gift post where the Mamamia readers solved the gift dilemmas of hundreds of readers, and in the process they got their own gift problems sorted. We wrapped up Christmas so well – we are going to do it again –
We’re going to use our collective wisdom to help each other with gift suggestions and advice.
Here’s how it works. If you have someone in your life you need to buy a gift for – say, a 3 year old niece – and you have no idea what 3 year old girls are into, just leave a comment and underneath, those who DO have a clue about your particular gift dilemma can leave their suggestions.
It doesn’t just have to be kids obviously. Have you ever tried to buy a gift for an older teetotaler uncle who wears thongs and doesn’t eat chocolate? Now we are talking tricky
This way, we all get to help each other which is surely what Christmas is about. Isn’t it???

might be too late for this post but here goes..
husband- buys everything he wants, which isn't a great deal but he is happy. i was thinking of getting one of those things that you put all your movies onto and then connect to your tv so your movies are all there.
i went to the shop and the guys started talking about needing external hard drives etc so my eyes glazed over and i lost interest..
does anyone know about these or can suggest a better idea for electronic sort of gift. we have a mac, which probably complicates things... but he does like a good gadget, as long as it is practical..
If you have a Mac, you can buy the Apple TV for around $129. Then you store the movies on your Mac and you don't need any other stuff.
Alternatively, if you don't want to be limited in the file types you play, Western Digital sell a couple of great little media players (available at Dick Smith) that will allow you to run movies off a USB drive (also from Dick Smith). A 500G USB drive for $50 - $100 will give you all the storage you need.

I am not a Christmas grinch, truly!
So, am going to add some "generic pressie ideas"
1. Kids 3 and over. Néw texts/ pencils (good brands tho' also on special now) notebook/blank pad/ or outlines for coloring. A cute zippered pencil case can be personalized or left (cheapest are in supermarkets. Also include a sharpener& eraser.
Even tho it sounds ' school- ish' believe me, in the school Hols kids love doing stuff & do not have anything left from the school supplies
2. Tweens & teens - I think smiggle et al are over priced BUT something smallish or within budget would be awesome. Similar for boys too .. Believe me.
3. Adults - all ages. If u can do it, find lovely plain glass jars, line inside bottom with scrunchy or plain cellophane - Red/Green for Christmas. Add the following ( according to person & their taste)
- mixed nuts
- choc covered fruits
- choc covered nuts
- election of Christmas shortbread bis
- selection of other biscuits
- your own home- made goodies.
Then when done, place cellophane on top of goods inside, seal with lid. Wrap whole jar in clear cellophane & tie with Chrissy ribbon & card.
None of the above should cost more than $25 in total
