News alert: Mamamia Radio

Mamamia is going to be on YOUR radio. Every day 6-7pm. We have partnered with Southern Cross Austereo to create a daily radio show and it’s going to be awesome sauce.

Many of you already know and love Em from her Mamamia posts – the girl is talented. She sings, she dances, she writes, she presents and she has the perfect balance of irreverance, smarts and lack of snark that makes her the top shelf choice for host.

And Dave Thornton? You are going to love his guts. He is a comedian, occasional presenter on The Project and his mother is a sex educator. Like Em, he’s smart, funny, warm and the exact guy you’d love to be your brother/boyfriend/son/mate.

I will be contributing via phone each day from MM HQ at the start of the show but it’s very much going to be about engagement with callers (YOU) who will be the radio version of commenters (YOU).

Alternatively, you can just listen and be like the radio version of readers.

It’s so high-tech I need to take a moment……

Here is the media release which went out this morning:

TODAY NETWORK’S NEW SHOW IS WHAT EVERYONE’S TALKING ABOUT!

Hitting the airwaves from Monday 6th August between 6pm-7pm around Australia, the Today Network is excited to announce the launch of a brand new weeknight show ‘Mamamia Today’.

Mamamia publisher Mia Freedman with Mamamia Today hosts Dave Thorton and Em Rusciano.

Television and radio presenter Em Rusciano teams up with funny man Dave Thornton, to bring the much loved Mamamia online brand to life across the Today Network’s metro stations.  They’ll be joined regularly by Mamamia herself, Mia Freedman, to chat about all the hot topics that everyone’s talking about – from fashion to pop culture to food, and everything in between.

Mamamia.com.au is one of Australia’s most popular websites for females under 40, discussing the latest trends, issues and what everyone’s buzzing about.  On Mamamia, ‘everything is up for discussion’ and ‘just like a real conversation with women, you never know where the conversation will go’.

Following in the footsteps of the Mamamia site, ‘Mamamia Today’ will focus on being inclusive – all topics, views, people and things will be on the table for discussion.  Fans of the site will know that it’s a very active experience that encourages engagement – and the team are excited about the real time engagement opportunities a radio show combined with a social media and online extensions will offer.

Mia Freedman says: “I couldn’t be more excited about Mamamia partnering with Southern Cross Austereo for this new daily show. At Mamamia.com.au we know how to tap into the topics women are talking about and springboard them into conversations. It’s real-time engagement with women which lends itself so perfectly to radio. Em Rusciano is hugely popular with Mamamia readers and Dave is about to be. They both have the perfect mix of irreverance, smarts and authenticity that embody the Mamamia brand. I can’t wait to work with them.”

Returning to the Southern Cross Austereo studios after a stint hosting The Project and regular appearances on The Circle, Em is a regular contributor to Mamamia.com.au and began her career with the Today Network’s breakfast team on 92.9 in Perth.  Mate Dave Thornton (the duo worked together on The Project) is known for his free flowing humor and extensive experience across TV, radio and stage, including regular appearances at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Dave Cameron, Head of Today Network for Southern Cross Austereo said: “We’re so excited to work alongside one of Australia’s biggest online brands for under 40 females. Mamamia.com.au has an amazing engagement level with its online community, and the radio show “Mamamia Today” will bring that same compelling interactive content to life on air for Today Network listener.”
