Maggie Gyllenhaal has new hair. And it’s a little bit fabulous.

The 36-year-old actress / pixie -goddess / Jake Gyllenhaal sibling debuted a brand new, freshly cut, blondie pixie ‘do’ today. She is currently in Cannes, France, promoting her latest TV series The Honourable Woman. She was there with her co-star Andrew Buchan and director Hugo Blick, who worked with her on the eight-part series for the BBC.

We think she must have left her husband Peter Sarsgaard and their daughters Ramona, seven, and two-year-old Gloria, back at home in New York (we secretly wish, even though we agree with Kristen Bell that celebrity kids should be left alone by paparazzi, that we could see how beautiful their little girls are).

We also less-secretly wish we knew where this spilled-beautiful-scrambled-eggs-down-my-front dress came from. 

The Dark Knight star shared this blondie shot on social media site WhoSay with the cheeky caption: ‘In Cannes with The Honourable Woman. I’m blonde btw…@mariesalon.’

This is not the first time Maggie‘s gone blonde; she did go flaxen-coloured for her 2006 hit, Sherrybaby. But other than that she’s mostly a brunette kinda lady – for all her major roles, including Secretary, The Dark Knight, Donny Darko and World Trade Centre.

This is how she usually gets about, all tousled and dark-haired like it aint no thang.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, whose real name is Margaret Ruth, remains one of our favourite-ever celebrities. She’s talented and gorgeous and famous and all that, but she’s also really intelligent, politically engaged, and genuinely interesting. She’s a proactive Democrat in the US, who vocally supports Obama, volunteers with the American Civil Liberties Union and raises huge amounts of money for charities that tackle human rights violations.

She’s also one of those glorious, luminescent celebrities who manages to keep her family life relatively private and maintain a level of dignity despite being hounded by fans and photographers.
