It’s raining medals! You missed a lot while you were sleeping last night (unless you managed to get through on absolutely no shut-eye, in which case, we tip our hats to you good sirs and madams).
Let’s start with this – the team of Murray Stewart, Jake Clear, Tate Smith and David Smith won GOLD in the K4 1000m event at Eton Dorney. The Aussies lead from the beginning and won in 2:55.085 over Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Sixteen-year-old Brittany Broben has only been diving for 4 years but last night she won silver in the 10m platform diving. She was in fourth place going into the final round but nailed backward 2.5 somersault, 1.5 twister (we don’t know what that is either but it looked as fancy as it sounds) to secure second place.
And the women’s water polo team won a bronze medal in a dramatic play off for third, against Hungary. The Stingers were leading by 1 goal 11 seconds before the final buzzer, but Hungary scored a goal to force the match into extra time. But they got through it, winning 13-11.
In other Olympic news, our men’s hockey team lost to Germany 4-2, South African runner Caster Semenya made it into the 800m final and the women’s basketball team, led by flag bearer Lauren Jackson, just couldn’t overcome defending gold medalists in team USA. They lost 86-73.
The fastest man ever. Goes really fast. Again.
Usain Bolt became the first man to ever win the Olympic sprint double two Games in a row. He won the 200m sprint overnight, which follows his win in the 100m sprint a few days ago.
The 25-year-old has now declared himself a legend. Normally you might scoff at such self proclamation but you can’t take a thing away from this bloke – who truly is a legend of sport.

Not getting the love for Usain Bolt, he seems like an arrogant (albeit bloody talented) Pain in the butt!
The greatest athlete to live, please, the greatest male sprinter but I can think of many (Phelps, Thorpe, the US basket ballers) others who were more talented, especially those with many tricks! (decathlon anyone?)
I agree!! Doing push ups after the 200m sprint win?! So arrogant. And Blake tried to congratulate Bolt but he was too busy showing off! Good on him for running fast but seriously, have some modesty!
Gotta love Lego! Thanks guys!
