Woman's horrific assault streamed live on a gaming site.

Content warning: this post contains graphic descriptions of alleged domestic violence.

Live video gaming sites allow users across the world to talk to one another while playing, to gather, to chat and be part of a like-minded community. But this week, one link-up turned disturbingly sinister.

Several users on popular website Twitch were left to listen in horror as a fellow gamer’s live microphone captured him allegedly assaulting his partner.

The disturbing audio, which was streamed live from an account belonging to JoeDaddy505, was recorded by other users and has since has been widely circulated online. However, it is to distressing to publish here and Mamamia would also strongly discourage readers from seeking it out.

Lasting roughly six minutes, the clip contains the voice of a man yelling derogatory comments at a woman and accusing her of cheating, seemingly without being aware that his microphone is live. The woman can be heard crying, screaming, telling him to “get off” her and threatening to call the police.

JoeDaddy505’s Twitch account has since been suspended for “terms of service violations”. However, a few social media accounts using the same JoeDaddy505 handle remain live and have been inundated with comments from outraged users.

Screengrabs posted online suggest that, faced with the online backlash, JoeDaddy505 since admitted to and apologised for the alleged assault.

It’s unclear whether the police were called by those Twitch users listening in, or if they are currently investigating the incident.

In statement provided to Jezebel, a Twitch spokesperson said that they do not provide a users’ personal information to authorities unless there are “validly issued and served subpoenas, warrants or court orders”.

“Twitch reaches out to appropriate law enforcement in cases where there is a credible threat of imminent physical harm or actual harm to others, and provides them with information sufficient to respond to the immediate incident to the extent we have it,” the statement read.
