Lisa Curry and Grant Kenny are officially grandparents.
Their daughter, Morgan Kenny, and her husband Ryan Gruell, welcomed a baby boy into the world on March 5.
They named their son Flynn Melchior Gruell.
Speaking to Woman’s Day, Morgan said the birth could have been “traumatic” if Ryan wasn’t there every step of the way.
While the couple had settled on a water birth, little Flynn ended up arriving two weeks early.
When Morgan’s waters broke at 10.30pm, the couple rushed to the hospital. Once the 27-year-old was examined, they were told to go home and wait it out as it could have been hours – or even days – until the baby arrived.
But once they made it home they pretty much had to turn around and head straight back to the hospital.
“Fifteen minutes later, the baby was in our arms,” Ryan told Woman’s Day.
“I didn’t cry but I felt the bond straight away. He was exactly what I expected to see and be. And just to know he was healthy and Morgan was healthy was such a relief. I was ecstatic.”
Lisa, 55, said she cried when she heard the news and Grant couldn’t “wait to get to the hospital to meet him”.
“I woke up in the morning to 100 missed calls, and all of a sudden I was a grandma,” Lisa told Woman’s Day. “I cried, of course, he was just so adorable and content, and Morgan was so content.”
The former competitive swimmer shared the news she was going to be a grandmother on Instagram last September.
“I’m going to be a GRANMA,” she announced.
“It is with so much JOY & EXCITEMENT to announce that our beautiful daughter Morgan and hubby Ryan are having a BABY!! This kid is going to be spoilt rotten.”
In January she posted a photo of the family’s hands on Morgan’s baby bump.
“Not long to go now until I become a grandma…. this little pickle is going to be loved and squeezed and spoiled so much,” she captioned the post.
Morgan is the youngest daughter of Lisa and Grant, who married in 1986 and separated in 2009.
Lisa is now engaged to Elvis impersonator, Mark Tabone.
