People don’t like change. We know this. But we’ve been given an insight into precisely how little, courtesy of a video of Lindsay Lohan speaking.
Yep. The actress was filmed chatting to media in Greece recently about the opening of her new Athens club, but all social media users cared about was her suddenly altered accent.
You can listen to it in the video above, but it’s been described as anything from “weird Greek” to “Dutch” to “Melania Trump”.
People are confused. Very confused.
But the Mean Girls star isn’t bothered by the response. In fact, she has a perfectly good explanation.
“It’s a mixture of most of the languages I can understand or am trying to learn,” she told Daily Mail.
Which, so far, is six. Count ’em. SIX.
“I’ve been learning different languages since I was a child. I’m fluent in English and French can understand Russian and am learning Turkish, Italian and Arabic,” she said.
In fact she’s even suggested a new name for her multi-cultural accent….

I spent 5 weeks in Greece a few years ago, being quite social in less-touristy destinations and talking mostly to locals.
My accent morphed and the phenomenon was not within my control - it was bizarre.
I heard myself towards the end of the trip at a social event and I realised I had subconsciously altered the speed, pattern, phrasing and tones to accommodate ESL speakers throughout my trip, mainly Greek of course but other and European. I sounded ESL myself! A case of the Princess Marys circa 2003-2004.
As soon as I flew out of Athens I sounded Australian again.
