Lauren Jackson has confirmed she’s pregnant with her first child.
Revealing the beautiful news to close friends and family last week, the ex-basketball star thanked her fans and loved ones for their support over what she called “a very exciting time”.
While her stellar career was cut short by a debilitating knee injury in March, Jackson left the sport renowned as one of the world’s greatest ever female basketballers.
The towering 35-year-old represented Australia in four Olympics, and won most valuable player awards in four separate continents – Australia, the United States, Europe and Asia.
Prior to walking away from the game, Jackson, who grew up in Albury NSW, told Fairfax about her plans to have a family.
“Absolutely I want to have a family … If I don’t do some work to get my knee strong, regardless of what happens with the Olympics, I’m not sure if I’d be able to play one-on-one with my kids in the backyard,” she said.

“That’s something I experienced in my childhood and I loved. I definitely want to be able to share with my children [in the future]. Whatever sport they might choose, I want to be a part of it and be active.”
Speaking to The Border Mail, father Gary Jackson said he was “very, very pleased with the whole thing.”
While the baby’s sex remains a secret, it’s reported Jackson is due to give birth early next year.
Congratulations, Lauren Jackson!

Maybe the baby's sex isn't a "secret" but a surprise.
I'm due early next year and baby's sex is a surprise to everyone but our Obst, as I had the Percept DNA test early - for other (medical) reasons. Even we don't know :)
