Aussie designer Kym Ellery on how to walk off the plane without looking like a mess.

Looking for some travel advice? Look no further.

Hailing from Perth, Western Australia, Kym Ellery is among the current crop of Aussie ‘It’ designers making a huge name for themselves overseas.

Ellery, who launched her brand in 2007, is the third Australian label in a century to be granted official recognition by the Fédération Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode.

If that long, fancy-sounding title doesn’t ring a bell, it’s the body that controls Paris Fashion Week – and it’s kind of a big deal.

Julie Bishop: ‘Why Fashion Week is about more than just clothes’.

Her designs are also  a favourite of celebs Dita von Teese, Nicole Richie, Georgia Jagger, Eva Mendes, Natalie Imbruglia, Jess Hart, Catherine McNeil, Sarah Murdoch, Jennifer Hawkins, Lara Bingle, Emily Barclay, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Chastain and Karlie Kloss.

Mamamia chatted to Ellery about her travel lifestyle and how she maintains a good beauty routine in between all those long flights.

What five essential clothing items do you recommend for travel?

  1. Cashmere sweaters.
  2. A light tailored coat.
  3. Your favourite jeans.
  4. Chic, comfortable shoes for long days on your feet.
  5. A black blazer.

Just as an FYI, this post is sponsored by The Clinic. But all opinions expressed by the author are 100 per cent authentic and written in their own words.

What do you do to get through a long haul flight?

Loads of water, some good movies and plenty of moisturiser for my face and body.

What are your best packing tips?

Always plan your outfits before you pack so you only take what you need. Also leave some room in your suitcase for shopping.

How do you walk off the plane without looking like a complete mess?

Before I disembark I usually brush my hair and use a hydrating serum on my face. A spritz of perfume and some mascara; et voila! You will be fresh for arrival.

Do you have an inflight beauty routine?

Yes I love to wear a masque on long flights and apply lots of moisturiser throughout the journey.

What do you wear on the plane; do you go for comfort, style or both?

I like to do a bit of both; slim back pants, a cashmere knit and a nice jacket.

What was your best/ most memorable travel experience, and why?

I once travelled to Turkey and spent two weeks on a wooden yacht. It was magical and I can’t wait to do it again.

Do you have a transit horror story?

Once I had a 12 hour stopover in Columbia. I had no local money and my credit card wouldn’t work so I patiently waited and hung out with some local characters in the airport until my flight finally boarded.
