Well, it happened. Here's why Kim Kardashian and Donald Trump just met at the White House.

Welcome to your own worst nightmare.

Just hours ago, Her Royal Highness, Princess of Diplomacy and Foreign Policy, Kim Kardashian, met with the President of Roseanne Barr‘s dreams, Donald Trump.

(A sentence no one should ever have to write, but alas, Armageddon does lend itself to the unbelievable.)

Kardashian West made the visit to the White House to urge Trump to pardon 63-year-old grandma Alice Marie Johnson, who is serving a life in prison without parole for a nonviolent drug offence.

“I’ve been fighting very hard and am willing to do what it takes to fight for what’s right,” Kardashian West told Mic in the lead up to the meeting.

“I’ve been in communication with the White House and trying to bring her case to the president’s desk and figure out how we can get her out.”

She added that if she was given the opportunity, she would tell Trump that “just like everybody else, we can make choices in our lives that we’re not proud of and that we don’t think through all the way.”

The meeting, according to Vanity Fair, was set up by Jared Kushner after “months of back-channel talks” between the reality star and the President’s son-in-law.

Johnson is currently serving a life sentence for a first-time, nonviolent drug offence. She has been behind bars since 1996 and is not eligible for parole, because there’s no such thing in the federal system. She was convicted on eight criminal counts relating to a cocaine trafficking operation involving more than a dozen people.

In a video for Mic – in fact, the video that first spurred Kardahian’s investment in the case – Johnson explained how, after losing her job and struggling to keep her family afloat, she made “one of the worst decisions of [her] life” and was involved in a drug conspiracy.

“I am not a safety risk to society. One of the things I am most proud of is I write plays. The plays that I write have been viewed by literally thousands of women,” she said.

In November, just weeks after Mic first released that video, Kardashian West hired her personal attorney Shawn Chapman Holley to assist with the case.

Ahead of the meeting, Johnson wrote to Mic and expressed her gratitude for all Kardashian West is doing.

“Kim is truly my war angel who will stop at nothing or leave no stone unturned to bring me home,” Johnson said in an email to the news outlet. “She is genuinely committed in her quest and has the sweetest heart for me.”

And, well, that’s the story of how two of the world’s most famous reality stars landed themselves in the most powerful room in the world talking politics.

Almost satire, but not.
