We were too busy looking at Rachel and Ryan…
Rachel and Ryan. Mandy and Andy. Jess and Nick.
There’s a list a mile long of iconic noughties couples — the ones who, for a brief time at the beginning of the new millennium, gave us all hope that rhyming names were a sign of compatability and that The Notebook was a realistic dream.
But for some reason, it appears that we missed one very iconic couple. Keira Knightley and Jamie Dornan used to date.
Just to recap, that’s Keira Knightley, Oscar-nominated actress and A-list fashion icon:
And Jamie Dornan, Hollywood heartthrob turned seductive womaniser in his latest role as Christian Grey:
The pair, who are now both married to their new partners, dated for two years from 2003 to 2005. And if you, like us, were completely unaware of this fact here’s what you need to know about the romance that could’ve been the biggest thing to happen to Hollywood since Brad and Jen…
They were a couple who reminded us that baggy jeans were a very real thing:
And that black satin (sort of) looked trendy:
And that shaved heads (for him) and cropped tanks (for her) were what the cool kids were wearing:
It’s a shame that the world just wasn’t ready for K-amie (yep, that’s what we’re calling them) when it had the chance. But at least we can reflect on our favourite noughties romances with fondness sheer and utter relief that baggy jeans are no longer a thing.
Flick through to check out some more of our favourite naughties couples…

Well, I'd never heard of Jamie Dornan until the last few years, so even if I had heard that he and Keira Knightley were dating, it wouldn't have made much of an impression on me. Maybe I heard about it at the time, maybe I didn't.
I'm more surprised by Heath Ledger and Naomi Watts! Really? Do not remember that happening at all!
It was super brief. She still had lovely things to say about him after he passed away (which is still so sad).
That would explain it then! I don't think I ever heard anyone say anything bad about that man, even when he was still alive. He always just seemed like a really sweet, genuine guy.
I can only see him as the serial killer in The Fall. So intense!
