Kate Middleton gives her first solo interview since marrying Prince William.

Kate Middleton has shared details about the incredible bond between the Queen and her great-grandchildren in a new documentary to commemorate the Queen’s 90th birthday. The interview, which is Kate’s first solo interview since marrying Prince William, has been described as ‘candid’ and ‘honest’, and puts to rest rumours that she doesn’t get along with the Queen.

The Duchess of Cambridge said the Queen was “really thrilled” to welcome the newest member of the Royal family, 10-month-old Princess Charlotte. “The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington Palace she was one of our first visitors,” said Kate.

Of course, Kate is also gushing over the arrival of a little sister for George. “It’s very special having a new little girl…I feel very, very lucky that George has got a little sister,” she said.

Kate also quashes rumours that the Queen is overbearing. “She’s been very generous in not being forceful at all and in any of her views, but I feel she’s been there, a gentle guidance really for me,” she says in the documentary.

The sweetest part of the interview, however, is Kate’s reveal of 2-year-old George’s nickname for the Queen. “He calls her Gan-Gan,” Kate says, adding that when her children are around, they are the apple of the Queen’s eye.

“She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we stay. And that just shows, I think, her love for her family.”

The landmark interview with Kate, and other members of the Royal Family, paint the Queen as a loving matriarch.

The documentary also features commentary from Prince William, who says, “Growing up, having this figurehead, having this stability above me has been incredible.

“I have been able to explore, understand, slightly carve my own path. I greatly appreciate and value that protection.”

Perhaps the most endearing aspect of the documentary is the way in which the Queen is portrayed as a grandmother we can all relate to. One who adores her grandchildren, and lights up whenever they’re in her presence. And don’t even get us started on the nickname ‘Gan-Gan’.
