Kanye West's breakdown triggered by "nightmares" about Kim Kardashian.

It’s been just over a week since rapper Kanye West was rushed to an LA hospital after suffering from extreme exhaustion and sleep deprivation.

Kanye spent the Thanksgiving holiday in hospital, and reports suggest that he is “in no shape to leave” yet, with doctors agreeing he “needs more time” to recover.

Now, an insider close to the couple claims the 39-year-old rapper suffered from horrible nightmares before his hospitalisation, triggered by Kim's traumatic Paris robbery on October 3.

"He's been shaken up ever since the robbery in Paris. It did a number on him as much as Kim" the insider told Us Weekly magazine.

"The mere thought that anything could happen to her sent him in a tailspin. He wasn't sleeping and he was having nightmares about it."

Kim's retreat from public life after she was bound and robbed at gunpoint in a private hotel room during Paris Fashion Week also meant that Kanye, 39, was unable to lean on her for support during his jam-packed tour schedule.

"In the past, he snapped back quickly," a source revealed to PEOPLE about the star's history of erratic behaviour.

"Without having Kim by his side during the tour as planned, Kanye wasn’t able to snap back. Kim being absent because of her own struggles seems to be why things are different with Kanye this time," the source added.

Kim has spent a lot of time by Kanye's bedside, with a source close to the family revealing she is "focused on Kanye" and his recovery.

The couple's two children - three-year-old daughter North and 11-month-old son Saint - are reportedly yet to visit their father in hospital.

The rapper's shock hospitalisation came just hours after he announced the cancellation of the remainder of his Saint Pablo tour dates.

Mere days earlier, Kanye had cut a show short after performing three songs, ranting about fellow celebs Beyoncé and Jay Z, as well as politicians Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump before walking off stage.

It's not uncommon at all for loved ones of people who have experienced a trauma like Kim has to then experience PTSD symptoms themselves (difficulty sleeping, flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, etc). Sometimes this is referred to as vicarious trauma or secondary trauma. I hope both Kayne and Kim get the help they need to recover and move forward together.
