1. The Treasurer has won a defamation lawsuit.

Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey has been awarded $200,000 in damages for being defamed by Fairfax Media last year.

The courts found that the Treasurer was defamed by a poster distributed by the Sydney Morning Herald and two Tweets sent by The Age containing the phrase “Treasurer for Sale.”

The poster earned Mr Hockey $120,000, and the Tweets an extra $80,000 in total.

Fairfax reports Mr Hockey’s victory was only partial, as the courts also found articles published on May 5, 2014 were not defamatory.

2. A woman has died in an horrific bungee jumping accident.

A woman has died and her boyfriend is critically injured after a bungee-jumping accident.

The 28-year-old woman and her partner were doing a tandem jump attached to a crane in the French town of Audincthun.

According to The Mirror, a source told a local paper the couple jumped off the 65-metre crane, and 15 metres from the ground “fell heavily.”

The woman died from her injuries while her partner has been rushed to hospital in Lille in a critical condition.

The crane has been operational for at least two years, but has been shut down following the incident.

Investigations into the tragedy are ongoing.

3. Brynne Edelsten has been charged with drug possession.

The former wife of medical magnate Geoffrey Edelsten, Brynne Edelsten, has been charged with possessing the illicit drug MDMA.

Mail Online reports Brynne Edelsten did not appear in court in Perth today, but was represented by her barrister, Tom Percy.

The case was adjourned until July 27.

No plea has been entered.
