A Canadian trans woman has filed a number of human rights complaints against salons for refusing her a bikini wax because of her gender identity.
The British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal (BCHRT) is expected to take months to rule in the case brought forward by Jessica Yaniv, who claims she has been discriminated against by more than a dozen estheticians who denied her services because she is transgender.
Last week, Yaniv testified before the B.C Human Rights Tribunal. She said she approached the 16 businesses via Facebook Marketplace including many that implied they provided services to both men and women. She said she was denied bookings when they discovered she was trans.
She said she has been denied “gender-affirming” services including intimate waxing, as well as facials, haircuts, pedicures and arm and leg waxing.
“I’ve had to approach 16 salons because I was refused from every single one,” Yaniv told Global News. “None of these providers had any issue until I mentioned I’m transgender… it’s systemic.”
This is not about waxing. This is about businesses and individuals using their religion and culture to refuse service to protected groups because -they- don’t agree with it or the person and use that to illegally discriminate contrary to the BC Human Rights Code and the CHRC. https://t.co/34XIklXXbh

This case has been settled. Yaniv lost and is now required to pay $2000 to each of the represented defendants. The decision is available online. Mamamia should do a follow-up article.
Thank you Mamamia for your scrupulous reporting and your brave and fearless support of ALL women no matter how large their testicles or how petty the misogynistic complaints against them.
Ms Yaniv is a dedicated Trans activist following the letter of Canadian law to its logical conclusion.
She is like the vast majority of
MtF transgenders - a biological male with fully intact male genitals who is heterosexual (sexually attracted to females).
The law says she is now a woman because.....well, because... she says she is. The law says she must not be discriminated against and should be able to access female exclusive services and spaces in the name of anti-discrimination. It’s the law! So all of these negative commenters here are just bigots if they disagree.
Since Canada leads the world in enacting trans ideology it’s only a matter of time before this gold standard best practice in trans rights arrives Down Under (no pun :-) . So ladies, get ready to be compelled by force of law to handle male genitals if your line of work requires you provide an intimate service to females.
“No” no longer means “No”. Which is perfectly logical since “woman” no longer means woman.
