For Jesinta Campbell, changing her name after marriage was an "important" step.

Within minutes of announcing her surprise wedding to AFL star Buddy Franklin, former Miss Universe Australia Jesinta Campbell had ‘officially’ changed her name on social media.

After making a name for herself under her maiden name, many wondered why 25-year-old Jesinta would choose to take on her husband’s moniker in the public eye.

And she has handled the curiosity surrounding her decision the only way she knows how: with absolute grace.

“A lot of people have been shocked by it: ‘What about your brand?’” she told the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

“I’m like, ‘What about the love of my life and the rest of my life?’ It was so important to me, and, yes, my career is important, but above all is my family and friends.”

Jesinta said having the same surname as her new husband makes her feel like they are a “team”.

“Changing my name meant a lot to Buddy, and we are a team now: Team Franklin. When we have children, it will be really important.”

The model and TV presenter also hinted as to why she chose to keep her wedding to Buddy – who she became engaged to in December 2014 – a secret.

“I never grew up dreaming of the big white wedding. But when I met Bud, it all just made sense,” she said.

“He’s the only person I have ever loved in this way.”

So, she's changed her name to Jesinta Franklin, yet you still have her former name in the article title and text? Does Mamamia have a problem respecting the rights of women to change their name post marriage? You could even refer to her as Jesinta Franklin (nee Campbell) if you wanted.
