As an audience, we’re all guilty of putting TV shows into boxes and abandoning them there.
The sexy show, the funny show, the smart show and the bloodthirsty one. Categories that rarely get recognised at the Golden Globes but are forever fused into our long-term memories. Along with our phone numbers and the lyrics to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
But more often than not, the shows that are jammed into just one category are filled with ideas, characters and story-lines capable of filling more boxes than Mariah Carey’s hair extensions.
Outlander is one of those shows.
It tells the story of World War II nurse Claire Randal, who is transported back in time to Scotland in 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. There, she meets Jaime Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) and the pair being a complicated but intense love affair.
Sam speaks to Mamamia.
At first is was billed as the show with "that hot, handsome and tall Scottish actor who is always naked", but in reality it's so much more than that.
That's what we learned on that fateful day when the "hot, handsome and tall Scottish actor" himself came into the Mamamia podcast studio.
But unfortunately, dear readers, he was not naked.
And after you listen to him speak, it's easy to see how TV's hottest show is about more than just sex.
