Ivanka Trump is confused.
Like all of us, something stirred inside the President’s eldest daughter as she watched Oprah Winfrey’s speech at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.
“Time is up,” Winfrey bellowed, for the way men abuse and silence and persecute women. “Time is up,” for the institutionalisation of sexual harassment and rape across industries, the 63-year-old confirmed. ‘Time is up’ for discrimination, inequality, abuse and misconduct.
Following her speech, many celebrities are calling for Winfrey to run for president in the 2020 election – and that’s how we know Ivanka’s confused.
“Just saw Oprah’s empowering and inspiring speech at last night’s Golden Globes,” the 36-year-old tweeted yesterday. “Let’s all come together, women and men, and say TIME IS UP!”
Ahhh… Two things.
Is this a plea for help from a woman who’s trapped within the White House and trying desperately to escape? What other explanation is there when the public pressure around Winfrey running for president is mounting, meaning one Donald Trump could be out of a job?
Second, if Ivanka agrees wholeheartedly with Winfrey’s sentiment, surely TIME IS UP for her father, too? A man publicly accused of sexual harassment by several women and who’s been caught on tape admitting to “grabbing women by the pussy” without their consent.
It seems such emotion must have been evoked in Ivanka listening to Winfrey’s words, that she forgot where and who she was. The backlash has been swift:
President Donald Trump, on the other hand, unfortunately remembers perfectly where and who he is.
Speaking to reporters in the Cabinet Room on Tuesday, he said: “Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah. “Oprah will be a lot of fun,” CNN reports.
He said he “likes” Winfrey, and spoke about appearing on her show with his family in 1988. But, with that confidence we all know too well, he said he “doesn’t think she’s going to run”.

He might be mistaken, however, with Winfrey’s long-time friend Gayle King, host of CBS This Morning, telling viewers Winfrey is “very intrigued” by the idea of campaigning for the presidency.
“I don’t think at this point she is actually considering it but I also know, after years of watching the Oprah show, you always have the right to change your mind,” King said on television this morning, CNN reports.
“I do think she’s intrigued by the idea. She loves this country and would like to be of service in some way.”
Let’s hope. The rest of us think “Oprah would be a lot of fun”, too.

I feel that we should all be tentative of criticizing Ivanka (or Melania for that matter) in regards to Donald Trump, as they are likely two of his victims. We have seen in the media the way Trump has treated Melania, or how he has spoken of his daughter in highly inappropriate and sexual ways. In addition, Ivanka is at least somewhat reliant (probably very reliant) on the fortune that has been provided by her father, and although she wasn't mentioned in this article, we must also be aware that Melania is married to the president of the united states (who has a cult like following which finds no fault in anything he does), is an immigrant, and has no accessible support system (aside from a 10 year old). He exerts very much power over them, and for either of them to speak out against him in anyway could have dire consequences for them.
Regardless, no child should be held responsible for their parent's mistakes. While I certainly do not agree with many of Ivanka's personal choices or business practices, we must acknowledge this.
You can love your parent and not entirely like or support everything they’ve done- i suspect this is what’s unsaid but I believe she understood it. Or she could just be totally clueless....
