An Italian teenager has died after her long hair became caught in her car’s steering wheel.
19-year-old Caterina Alzetta died as her car careered across the road into oncoming traffic on Friday, the Daily Mail reports.
The accident reportedly occured in the northern Italian town of Montereale Valcellina, when the young woman rolled down a window and the wind caused her hair to stick in the wheel, the Huffington Post reports.
The Daily Mail reports that Alzetta and her 21-year-old brother had to be cut free from the wreckage.
Alzetta, whom the Huffington Post reports was a physical therapy student, died in hospital from her injuries later that day.
Alzettas’ father, the head of the emergency rescue service in the town, confirmed the tragic incident, according to UK newspaper The Mirror.
“My daughter’s hair was thick and long, but tragically her hair got caught in the steering wheel,” Michele Alzetta said.
As we understand it when she made a sudden movement of the head it pulled on the steering wheel,” he said.
Two brothers aged 42 and 47 were in the other car. They were hospitalised after the crash, New York Daily News reports.

I love my crop even more right now.
Her hair is not that long and how many
People do u know that have had problems with their hair getting caught up in the steering wheel?
Yes, that's so weird - I don't get it. Steering wheels are too big to trap hair. What the hell?
I assumed it was the small gap between the column and the wheel?
Well, hair grows. It's very possible that's an older photo, rather than one.
I don't know anyone who has had a problem with their hair getting caught in the steering wheel but presumably the fact that the situation is unusual is why we're hearing about it. News about car crashes in Italy doesn't usually make it to Australia.
When I was very heavily pregnant with my youngest child I had to drive to the obstetrician for an appointment and the steering wheel got stuck on my tummy as I turned a corner. Seriously it was very frightening for a second or 2 because the car just kept turning and I couldn't straighten the wheel. I had to grab my tummy and manoeuvre it down and then as quickly as possible turn the steering wheel to get the car back into my lane.. Sounds crazy I know but I am sure I would have had an accident as I was turning into the lanes beside me which were heavy with traffic. I wasn't going fast so I assume it may have been more of a dingle than a tragedy but you cannot tell what might happen. I don't suppose getting long hair caught in a steering wheel is such a strange thing if you think about it but thank goodness like you say it is an unusual occurrence.
