The #FreeBritney fans have found themselves in a bit of a pickle.
For years, fans rightly called for Britney Spears to be freed from her conservatorship. They argued the media's toxic treatment of the singer was the reason she was in the conservatorship in the first place.
This week, the fans are now looking like the toxic ones. And it's all become a bit of a circus (Britney Spears song puns intended).

Strap yourselves in as we break down the wild conspiracy theory involving a missing popstar, a body double, a fake private jet, and a "manic episode":
Let's start with the basics. Why were Britney Spears' fans worried?
It all starts with an alleged body double.
At the end of 2022, a bunch of fans started making TikToks claiming Spears was a missing person. They said her recent Instagram posts looked like they were staged using a body double.
Yes, a body double. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Later, Spears posted a video claiming she was on a private jet heading to New York City. After this, fans claimed Spears must have been dead because there were no paparazzi or fan photos of her trip.
Spears' camp then came out and explained that Spears' and her husband Sam Asghari were actually headed to Mexico for a holiday, and she said they were going to NYC to throw the paparazzi off the scent.
Which is actually really clever?
Then last week, TMZ published a story claiming Spears was caught having a "manic episode" at a restaurant in Los Angeles, where she was dining alongside Asghari.
Not sure how she was having a "manic episode" when she's missing presumed dead, but ok.
Spears and Asghari were once again forced to set the record straight. The couple explained Spears' became "frustrated" when a bunch of her fellow diners started taking photos of her.
And to be fair, I'd be a little p*ssed off too if I was trying to have a peaceful dinner, only to be swarmed by flashing camera phones.
Spears elaborated on the whole situation via an Instagram post (before then deleting the app) expressing her disappointment at the suggestion she was not well.
"They'll be watching my every move! I'm so flattered they talk about me like a maniac THEN have the balls to talk about all the negative things that happened in my past!!!" she said.
Ok. So, why did fans then livestream themselves calling the police?
Oops! The mega fans did it again.
After Spears' deleted her Instagram account, a bunch of fans called her local police department and requested they do a welfare check on the singer. Oh, and they livestreamed the whole thing on TikTok.
Also, we could use our rational minds to come to the same conclusion.
A missing pop star who's possibly dead? A body double? A fake private jet trip?
It's a pretty far-fetched conspiracy theory.
If we were to believe that we might also believe the world is secretly run by lizard people.
Or, you know, that Elvis is still alive. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
