Go and play but not WITH THAT TOY!

Just what every family needs – an ATM for the rumpus room.

I was shocked and felt a twinge of outrage when I realised these existed.

‘Do our kids really need to be worrying about cashing up before kindy?’

But then I thought about it – I had a toy cash register when I was five and loved it. We played shops, and I mimicked the lady who served Mum at the shops (it was always a lady). Kids are still mimicking their parents and a trip to the shops these days often involves swinging by the ATM. Toys are tools for playing pretend.

So I guess it’s not that bad – as long as the kid doesn’t say, ‘Holy f*#ck. WHERE DOES ALL THE MONEY GO?’ when she looks at the receipt. If that happens, we may have a problem.

What toys do you think are inappropriate for kids? Are any toys banned at your place? Did your parents have a, ‘No toy guns’ policy, or zero tolerance for Barbie?

Well I haven't come across any inappropriate kids toys. I used to play with toy guns as a kid (and I'm a girl). Maybe since it's harder to get a gun here than in the States, but I see no reason why kids can't play with toy guns. Provided they understand the dangers and that real guns are not toys. They'll hardly turn into killers. Most kids play cops and robbers and I doubt the kids who are the robbers are going to grow up into criminals. They're just mimicking the age old good vs evil and it would be rather boring for them if there were only the good guys.
My 2 yo nephew once "shot" me with a stick. I must have had a convincing death because he cried and told me it was only make believe and that real killing is "very very bad". I think it's safe to say that he won't grow up to be a psyco lol. Heck teaching gun safety might be more productive. I know the country folks over here grow up around guns. They're not killers. Violent video games are always blamed and I find that a rather lazy thing to do. How about blaming the people responsible for doing horrible things and their parents? After all, violence has and always will be a part of our species and our entertainment. Movies, TV, books have always had violence andsuddenly they teach kids bad habits? Rubbish I say. It's up to the parent to intill right and wrong, not the media. How about discussing things with kids instead of censoring things. Help them understand why you have objections. /End rant. Sorry, had a few brushes with ,PC crap and it angers me.
