It’s the first aid hack that every one of us needs to know.
New research by St John Ambulance has shown that four out of five parents would not know how to save their baby if it was choking.
In response, they have created an educational advert titled #TheChokeables, which aims to show just how easy it is to save a choking infant – and they want your help to share it.
High profile celebrities including David Walliams, David Mitchell, Johnny Vegas, and Sir John Hurt have voiced the video, which features everyday choking hazards including marbles and pen lids, as well as super-clear instructions on how to respond in an emergency.
It is short, simple and surprisingly entertaining – and obviously, well worth the 40 seconds of your life it takes to watch it.
But if you don’t have time, the recommendation is to put the baby face down on an adult’s thigh, giving up to five back blows and, if that does not work, up to five chest thrusts.
If that doesn’t work, parents should call an ambulance immediately.
Please, share this with everyone you know – parents and non-parents alike. It might just save a life.
