"I got down on one knee and proposed to myself. Now you should too."

Former Project Runway star Amber Renae has declared she has finally found ~The One~. Herself.

In what Renae has described as the “scariest post” she has ever uploaded to her blog, she created a video explaining how she proposed to herself, “for real”.

“Oh my god, I’m engaged. I’ve finally found the one. The one who completes me, the one who I’m going to spend the rest of my life with. That one is me,” she begins.

OK so before you toss this in the ‘too weird’ pile like some of her friends have, hear a lady out.

Yes, she got down on one knee. Yes, she gave herself a ring. And yes, she is wearing a wedding dress.

But Renae has a valuable message for everyone about committing to your own happiness.

Renae's mantra is that you need to get the relationship with yourself right before you even think about pairing up with anyone else.

So, she has made a promise "to love, honour and respect myself, more fully and completely than I will ever ask of another human to."

And she thinks you should too - because you can't expect the fantasy of a Prince or Princess Charming to complete you. Rather, they can only complement you.

"The feeling of completeness comes from within," Renae says.

Her ring, she explains, is symbolic of her vow to be 100 per cent responsible for her own joy and putting herself first.

"Our happiness is our number one priority and when you get to that place of happiness that’s when the good stuff happens," she says.

Renae says she had been surprised by some people's negative reactions to her unique engagement announcement.

"People have either completely dismissed the idea or said things like ‘that doesn’t count’ or ‘what are you going to do when a real relationship comes along?'," she says.

Screw the haters.
