I must say I’ve been mildly surprised at the revelations this week that Tiger has had one – or possibly many mistresses.
As Caroline Overington tweeted yesterday:
“Some part of my heart must still be soft, silly and pure, because I would not have picked Tiger as a love rat.”
After earlier denying claims that he’d had an affair with a New York woman called Rachel Uchitel who mysteriously appeared in Melbourne at the same time he was there (she backed him up and denied it as well), another woman sold her story to a US tabloid, complete with incriminating voicemails and texts.
Harder to deny that.
Of course it all started with a Very Odd car crash, captured hysterically in this hypnotic report from Chinese TV:
And now, the Chicago Tribune reports….
“I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart,” Woods said in the statement. “I am dealing with my behavior and personal failings behind closed doors with my family. Those feelings should be shared by us alone.”
UsWeekly has reported Woods and his wife, , have a prenuptial agreement worth $300 million. If that number is correct — or close — and the two divorced, it would be the most expensive celebrity divorce in history, exceeding the $150 million-plus paid his wife, Juanita, in their settlement.
The cocktail waitress, Jaimee Grubbs, told UsWeekly she had a voice mail of Woods.
“Hey, it’s, uh, it’s Tiger. I need you to do me a huge favor,” the message said. “Um, can you please, uh, take your name off your phone. My wife went through my phone. And, uh, may be calling you. … You gotta do this for me. Huge. Quickly. All right. Bye.”
Also, radaronline.com reported that , the New York bar hostess who initially denied an affair with Woods, will admit to it and that her attorney, Gloria Allred, has scheduled a news conference for Thursday.
Prepare for a conga line of hot women to come out and sell their stories about having sex with Tiger Woods. Do you care? Will you read them? Do you even want to close your eyes and imagine Tiger having sex?
I’ve really struggled to summon any interest in this story. And I don’t just think it’s because I’m not into golf.
My instinct is to look away, just as it was with the recent tawdry revelations about the alleged relationship between SA premier Mike Rann and some women when he was single (and she was married). Or something.
Similarly, a few months ago when a NSW labour minister John Della Bosca’s former lover came out and told her story to the media about their affair (barely containing her rage) I was also perplexed.
Why do these women do it? It’s not always for the money (the woman who had the affair with Della Bosca supposedly wasn’t paid according to the Daily Telegraph who broke the story). Is it for the fame? Or for revenge?
You have to wonder what they think they will achieve in the longer term. Does the name Rebecca Loos ring any bells? She’s the woman who sold her story about having an affair with David Beckham – which somehow ended up being twisted into being the ‘fault’ of Victoria in the eyes of the media and the public. Go figure.
Do you think what celebrities, politicians and sports stars do in their private lives is all fair game? What do you think motivates these women who sell their stories? Is it just money or something more like bitterness and a desire for revenge?
Are there any winners in this whole tawdry mess?

Last night in Times Square, NY, they were selling Tiger Woods condoms! I'm all for safe sex, but think that this has definitely gone too far!
Don't think he is struggling with the issue he isn't good enough, but rather the issue he thinks he's too good. You know the thing we tell our kids at school 'he/ she is only bullying because they're insecure about themselves'. Total myth, psychology proves that those people have really high self esteem thats why they can belittle others and still hold their head high.
