"Why is it so f**king dark?" 6 thoughts I had while watching House of the Dragon.

Warning: This post contains spoilers for Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.

After three long years, the world of Westeros is finally back on our screens.

House of the Dragon, HBO's much-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel, is one of the biggest shows in the world right now.

Based on parts of the novel Fire & Blood, the series is set roughly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen.

With less than one week to go until the season one finale, I've devoured every single minute of this show and I can't stop thinking about it.

So, here are six thoughts I've had while watching House of the Dragon:

1. There are far too many people.

In typical Game of Thrones fashion, there are simply far too many characters.

After watching House of the Dragon for weeks now, I still struggle to remember the names of half of the people on this goddamn show.

Add to that multiple time jumps, countless blonde wigs, and an abundance of men named Aegon, and the characters become even more difficult to follow.

2. Why did Viserys virtually turn into a zombie, but Daemon still looks 25?

While Viserys Targaryen virtually disintegrated in front of our eyes to resemble Gollum, his brother Daemon somehow hasn't aged a day.

And on that note, what skincare routine is Ser Criston Cole using???

That man hasn't aged a day in 15 years.

3. Why is it so f**king dark?

Look, I understand the constant dark scenes in House of the Dragon are probably a creative decision.

But even after turning off every single source of light in my house, I can't see sh*t. I may as well be listening to an audiobook.

I couldn't even find bright photos for this goddamn article!

Yet I could see perfectly well when Lord Larys Strong was exposed for having an actual foot fetish. FFS.

4. On that, why did we get the foot fetish scene, but we didn't get this scene?

In episode nine, we learned that Lord Larys Strong has a deal with Queen Alicent Hightower where he gives her gossip and assists her with various schemes in exchange for a sneaky look at her feet.

After Larys offered to deal with Alicent's spy problem in the episode, she took off her socks and shoes and propped her feet up on the table as Larys... masturbated.

First of all, why was this scene more shocking than the dozens of incest scenes we've seen in the season so far? Did Game of Thrones just... desensitise us?

And second of all, why did we get the foot fetish scene, but we didn't get this scene between Daemon and his daughters???

MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

5. Will these wigs ever stop being distracting?

It's been nine weeks, and the wigs this season are still so distracting.

House of the Dragon reportedly had an episode budget of $20 million, so why do the wigs look like they were purchased at The Reject Shop in a post Halloween sale?

🤦🤦🤦

6. Am I supposed to have warmed to the Hightowers by now?

As we countdown to the finale next week, I can't help but wonder... should I have warmed up to the Hightowers by now?

Because I just... haven't.

I STILL CAN'T STAND THEM.
