“It’s f*cking outrageous.”
I think we can all agree that Helen Mirren is elegance personified. She is regal. She is graceful. She is wise. She is powerful.
And when she speaks – we listen. Especially when she gets sweary.
This week, the Oscar-winning actress made it quite clear that she’s not okay with the way fellow actress Maggie Gyllenhaal’s recent revelation that she was too old to play a 55-year-old man’s lover.
(May we please make it clear that Maggie Gyllenhaal is only 37).
Speaking to a room of over 100 women in the entertainment industry, Dame Helen Mirren gathered all her Queenliness and said, “It’s fucking outrageous.”
We couldn’t have put it better ourselves.
She added, “It’s ridiculous. And ’twas ever thus. We all watched James Bond as he got more and more geriatric, and his girlfriends got younger and younger. It’s so annoying.”
Note to self: use ’twas ever thus in everyday conversation.
While those were not the words we were expecting, we’re so onboard.
Watch the full conversation below. (Just try not to swoon over Helen Mirren’s heavenly accent):

I read the Maggie Gyllenhaal interview and she was just saying that a director or whatever didn't want to give her that role cos she was too old. She herself didn't believe she was too old for it. Or perhaps I understood the interview wrong.
She's awesome. Even her posh swearing is good.
