Hatchimals are now swearing, parents say. And they're posting videos to try prove it.

It’s a children’s toy that is very, very popular. A ‘Hatchimal’ is an egg that hatches into an interactive, fluffy bird-like creature.

Theoretically, the toy is meant to peck it’s way out of its shell after 30 minutes play time. Then, more gradually, it goes through three stages of “development”, from baby to toddler and finally to “child Hatchimal”.

But the small bird – that’s available in five “species” and designed for children five years and older – has presented a number of difficulties to parents since the present-buying rush began this Christmas.

First, they were sold out by mid-November.

Then, Christmas arrived and the fluffy birds weren’t hatchingaccording to thousands of complaints on the Facebook page of Spin Master – the company behind the toy.

Now, the owners of Hatchimals that have “hatched” are saying the toy is swearing at them.

Toys that spark desperation. Post continues below.

Reports that the toy is saying phrases that sound like “F**k you” or “F**k me” can be seen on the Spin Master Facebook page; through videos on YouTube; and from parents speaking to different media outlets.

One mother, Sarah Galego, told CTV News in Vancouver that she heard her six-year-old son’s Hatchimal swear. “If he was a little bit older we might be more offended about it,” she told the news network.

In response, Spin Master spokesperson Anne Yourt told CTV News that swearing is not part of the Hatchimals’ vocabulary.

“Hatchimals speak their own language made up of random sounds,” Yourt said. “We can assure you that the Hatchimal is not saying anything inappropriate.”

One woman posted to Facebook:

“It didn’t hatch like videos we have since seen. It also sounds like it is saying ‘*uck me’. After all the stress of purchasing one not what I would recommend to others.”

The company has also issued a statement through social media:

“While the vast majority of children have had a magical experience with Hatchimals, we have also heard from consumers who have encountered challenges. We are 100 per cent committed to bringing the magic of Hatchimals to all of our consumers,” the post reads.

“We have increased the number of Consumer Care representatives, extended our hours, and increased the capacity for callers in the queue to help prevent calls dropped due to the holiday volume,” the post continues.

Mamamia has contacted Spin Master for comment regarding reports of Hatchimals swearing. In the meantime, you can try to make up your own mind with the videos below:
