Fine hair? We’ve got your back.
With the right cut and a few choice styling products, you CAN trick your hair into thinking it’s thicker.
Start with one of these six best haircuts for thin hair.
1. The Bob.
Good news, the haircut that is having a (really long) moment, is one of the best haircuts for you. Thin hair is especially good for this style as the flatter the hair sits on the scalp, the sleeker the bob appears.
To style: liberally spray the hair with a Aveda's Pure Abundance™ Style-Prep, and then flick hair over to one side with a deep side part for a more modern look.
2. The Long Bob.
Don’t know whether to get a bob? The Lob is a more versatile cut, suiting most women of every age and face shape. If you have particularly angular features, like a prominent nose or pointy chin, ask your stylist for choppy layers that graze your collarbone.
To create the messy tousled look that’s very on-trend right now, section hair then spray on Aveda’s Thickening Tonic thoroughly from roots to ends. Comb through then blow-dry hair, using the nozzle to direct the air down each section of hair. If you have no natural wave, once your hair is dry, take small sections and wrap them around a curling wand, leaving out the ends.
3. The Pixie.
If you’ve ever toyed with the idea of cutting your hair super short, now is the time. Ok, maybe wait until winter is over unless you want to make scarves part of your signature look. But unlike thick hair that can have a ‘helmet head’ vibe when cut short, thin hair falls closer to the scalp, requiring less frequent trims to ‘take the weight out’ of this style.
4. The Close Crop.
A close cousin to the pixie cut, the messy crop is an excellent way to try a shorter hairstyle without the commitment of cutting it all off. Ask your stylist for more length in the front of the style with choppy, textured ends.
One of my favourite products to use on thin hair this length is Aveda’s Pure Abundance™ Hair Potion – it is hair volume in a bottle, seriously.
5. The Shag.
It’s probably best to have an inspiration photo at the ready instead of flat-out asking your hairdresser for a shag.
When styling this cut, first spray a thickening product like Aveda’s Thickening Tonic from roots to ends before blow-drying to give thin hair some much-needed body. Tip: keep this haircut above the shoulders otherwise you can very easily venture in 1990s territory.
6. The Long, Blunt and Sleek.
Yes, you can have long hair without it hanging like a lifeless hair curtain in front of your face.
The key to this super sleek style is to ask your hairdresser for a blunt cut, and book in for regular trims to keep hair in excellent condition. To style: spritz a shine spray or serum such as Aveda's Brilliant™ Spray-on Shine an inch from your roots after straightening to help tame fly-aways.
You’ll be booking your next hair appointment stat.
