Everyone is talking about Hailey Bieber’s pregnancy photoshoot. Her words tell a much more disturbing story.

When it comes to influencers, you don't get much more influential than Hailey Bieber, the curator of what's cool.

Recently, the model and wife of Justin Bieber gave a rare interview to W Magazine, set out alongside a stunning photo spread. The cover showcased Hailey in a black bra and matching black tights, while other photos featured the 27-year-old in a series of stunning high-fashion looks.

Pregnancy has never looked cooler and we expected nothing less from Hailey Bieber.

The photos have been praised for showing the skincare mogul's pregnant belly in all its glory.

But far removed from the glamorous photoshoot, the interview itself was a different story.

The interview featured Hailey reflecting on her reputation as a divisive celebrity — a woman who was once one of the most hated people on the planet, simply because she dared to date Justin Bieber after he dated Selena Gomez

This was a different time, when Beliebers were in abundance and Hailey wasn't super famous in her own right yet. But now, six years since the couple got married, Hailey is still feeling the aftereffects of the disdain.

In W Magazine interview, Hailey said that she has worked with a therapist to "compartmentalise" the negative scrutiny she still faces daily.

"People have made me feel so bad about my relationship since day one. 'Oh, they’re falling apart. They hate each other. They’re getting divorced.' It’s like people don’t want to believe that we're happy," she said.

"I used to try to act like it hurts less and less. I’ve tried to think that you get used to it at a certain point, that this is what’s going to be said and this is how people are going to be. But I realise that it doesn’t actually ever hurt any less."

Hailey was also touchy about the subject of her Lorraine Schwartz–designed diamond wedding ring, which was recently upgraded.

"Actually, this is only one carat bigger. It’s just elongated," she clarified. "They're going off with their own stories about it. I don't like it. I didn't want to talk about it."

With every response, it was clear that Hailey's critics were always at the top of her mind.

And her detractors aren't just random people on the internet. She's also distanced herself from her family. In February, Hailey's famous father, Stephen Baldwin, sparked rumours of divorce between his daughter and Justin after he shared a cryptic post.

The actor shared a post from Victor Marx, founder of All Things Possible Ministries, with a caption that read: "Christians, please when you think of Justin and Hailey, take a moment to offer a little prayer for them to have wisdom, protection and to draw close to the Lord."

Hailey made it clear in the interview that there's no love lost between herself and her family. "Obviously, I come from the family that I come from, and I always recognised that that was different," she said. "I’m not super close with my family at this point in my life because I feel like I’m very independent. I’m my own individual now, and I’ve built my own family."

When asked about her skincare brand Rhode, Hailey seemed sheepish about the topic, despite the brand's success. "I knew it was a really oversaturated space and everyone was tired of celebrity brands," she said, as the story's author noted that Hailey looked as though she was "anticipating an eye roll" in response to another celebrity creating a beauty brand.

To be clear, Rhode isn't just any celebrity beauty brand. When Rhode launched in June 2022, the brand's buzzy Peptide Lip Treatment sold out within three days, and quickly amassed a waitlist of 440,000 shoppers. Upon its release, Bieber sold 36 units of her Peptide Glazing Fluid every second.

Bieber did acknowledge how she nailed the brand's ethos. "The most important thing is the efficacy of the product, what’s inside the bottle. But not only that, I wanted it to feel chic. I wanted it to feel cool," she said.

But behind her immense success, Hailey has also been dealing with some mental health struggles behind the scenes. She shared that she suffers from cyberchondria, which is anxiety from finding online health information with negative results.

"You see so many stories — traumatic birth stories, traumatic experiences — and I know that that's very real," she said. "But I don’t want to scare myself."

Hailey Bieber is inarguably one of the biggest taste-makers in culture today, so us normies can take some solace to learn that she has insecurities and anxieties just like the rest of us.
