Guy Sebastian writes a tribute song to Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.

Eurovision hopeful Guy Sebastian arrived back in Australia from London to see the news of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran’s fate in Bali and was struck by the tragedy.

Despite having had fewer than two hours sleep in two days, Guy Sebastian felt moved to create a slideshow of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, their families, Sukumaaran’s art, and tributes to the pair after their deaths.

He set it to a self-composed chorus.

The lyrics are: “When you fire your bullet look me in the eye and take aim, when you fire your bullet as it takes my life, my light will remain so take aim.”

“I just have had such a weight after seeing coverage of Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran’s families and their desperation and anguish,” he wrote.

“As I began to read about the courage they had just before facing death it made me think of how much their light shone in this last chapter, & that it will continue to shine long after, especially for their families.”

“I just wrote this chorus and did a slideshow tribute. I hope it works, I’ve never done one before. I know people are divided about certain specifics of all this, but please don’t comment about that, this is purely to honour 2 people who have tragically had their life cut short.”

Facebook users ignored this last request, demanding, nonsensically, to know why Sebastian was moved to write a song about the two executed Australians but not about the thousands of people who died in Nepal.

Others questioned why he hadn’t penned a tribute to the ANZACS.

Huh?

“You muppet. The penalty was death if caught, they got caught and got death. Waaaaa. Get out of your little bubbles and realise the real world has consequences and is a bad place if you break the rules. Welcome to the real world princess,” wrote some tough guy.

Sebastian followed up his post by explaining that yes, of course he is upset by the Nepalese earthquake, and no, of course he doesn’t approve of the drug trade.

“I just felt sad about how they went, and the images of their fate the family was left with, thats [sic] all… Just because I don’t sit here making slideshows for every tragic thing that happens in the world, doesn’t mean that there should be negativity drawn from this. I respect peoples [sic] opinions, but theres [sic] a time and place,” he wrote.

Despite the trolls, Sebastian’s post has been liked more than 34,000 times and shared 6095 times, and the vast majority of comments were positive.

The bodies of Chan and Sukumaran were repatriated this morning.
