FLUFF: Top TV show forced to change its name.

Glee is no more.*

*in the UK.

Yes, the popular teen comedy about a musical theatre group from Ohio has been forced to change its name following a ruling in the UK High Court.

The Twentieth Century Fox show, which screens on Channel Eleven here in Australia, was being sued by a UK company called Comic Enterprises, who run a chain of comedy venues called The Glee Club. Comic Enterprises had registered the trademark for The Glee Club more than a decade ago, and had argued that their newfound association with the show was driving patrons away.

Judge Roger Wyland did not adjudicate on whether Glee was not cool enough for The Glee Club, basing his decision on there being a “likelihood of confusion” between the show and the venue chain.

What do you think Glee’s new name should be?

Remember when the World Wildlife Fund took the World Wrestling Federation to court to prevent the latter from using the moniker WWF ? Apparently some people couldn't tell the difference between a panda and Hulk Hogan.
