Glee star Naya Rivera, who played Santana Lopez on the hit musical TV show, has revealed she had an abortion while starring on the show.
The 29-year-old made the confession in her soon-to-be-released memoir, Sorry Not Sorry, revealing she fell pregnant with her now-husband’s child in 2010.
She found out about the pregnancy just weeks after she and Ryan Dorsey had broken up, and chose to terminate the pregnancy so she could continue with her career.
The actress said she was hesitant to share her story in the book.
"It was very scary to open up about it. It's not something a lot of people talk about, but I think they should," she said.
"I know some people might read it and say, 'what the hell?', but I hope someone out there gets something out of it."
Naya and Ryan started dating again in 2014 and were married in in Mexico on July 19 that year.
They are now parents to 11-month-old Josey.
Naya says she hopes her son will read her emotional confession when he is older.
"I hope it gives him a better perspective on the issues women face," she said.
