Mamamia recaps the Gladiator II trailer: The moment Paul Mescal gave us The Ick.

Steady your horses and keep your swords at the ready, we have the official trailer for Ridley Scott's Gladiator II  starring Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal.

I've personally watched the trailer 23 times and with each viewing I become more and more obsessed.

Gladiator II follows Lucius (played by Mescal) who is attempting to take down the Roman empire.

Unfortunately, none of the character's names are said during the trailer so in this recap, I've just referred to them by their actor names.

Let's get into it...

Before we start, if you watch the trailer yourself, I have a little tip for you...turn your subtitles on. Angry men who yell in the middle of killing each other are surprisingly hard to understand.

The trailer starts off with a flashback to Gladiator, where Paul Mescal was a young boy who saw "A slave (Russel Crowe) take revenge on an emperor."

We find out that Paul doesn’t know much about his past and doesn’t know who his parents are.

Denzel Washington then appears and says to Paul "You will be my instrument". Which I think will be the sexiest line in the whole film. I'm pretty sure that Denzel's character is someone who makes money off all the Gladiators which is disappointing because I'd rather see him as a Gladiator himself.

Pedro Pascal is then seen standing in a horse carriage riding through the coliseum waving to the crowds like he’s a tribute in the Hunger Games.

You can't convince me that these scenes are from two separate movies. We then see some fighting and killing scenes while the emperors laugh from their royal balcony watching men being slaughtered (chaotic behaviour).

There’s another sexy line from Denzel Washington where he tells Paul "You have something in you," and yes, I replayed that scene five times, every rewatch.

Paul is seen crying, and then angry and then covered in blood and that repeats about six times throughout the trailer.

The Mescal medley if you will. Denzel's back and tells Paul that his rage is his gift which makes me worried that they’re promoting toxic masculinity.

But wait, all is well because there's then a scene where Paul is running and... I got the ick.

His arms are weirdly... high? And his leg stance is weirdly... wide?

It's giving 'character in an early 2000s video game'.

I'm very disappointed in this running scene. Paul Mescal has had plenty of experience allegedly running away from his alleged girlfriends so I expected better from him in this scene.

Me when I hear the ice-cream truck outside.

There’s a rhino in the colosseum which is fine because back then they weren’t endangered and I guess they've found some sort of historical explanation on how that could work out logistically.

Our friend, and the only person who holds our hand through this trailer, Denzel comes back in with more sexy words... He asks Paul "Who’s head shall I give you to satisfy this fury?"

Paul replies "The entire Roman empire."

Denzel giggles but Paul isn’t joking.

Denzel: Oh Paul, you silly jokester. Paul: They literally killed everyone I've ever loved.

They then both decide that killing Pedro Pascal would be sufficient enough.

We then see a lot of mini-scenes very quickly, I think because they're running out of trailer time. Paul is given Russel Crowe's ring from when he was a Gladiator and unless that ring has magical powers, Lord help me.

The trailer ends with a showdown between Pedro and Paul and I'm not sure if this was what the producers and creators intended but... This is so girly.

Gladiator II will be hitting our screens later this year on the 14th of November. I'll see you there.
