Georgia Love became The Bachelorette because of a total stranger.

After she got the call up to be The Bachelorette last year, Georgia Love had just one question – who put her up?

“I actually never applied to be on The Bachelorette, [so] it was a casting person from Warner Bros, the show’s production company that called,” Love told Mia Freedman in the latest episode of No Filter.

“I thought it was a prank so I kind of played along and I was like ‘Sure’ and I wrote down her name and she was like ‘Your name has come up’.”

Interesting.

It was some time later that she discovered how her name had been thrown into the mix to start with.

“The only thing I have heard about it since – and I don’t know who the person actually is – but they said they kind of put a big shout out to people within their network saying the kind of person that they wanted and a nurse from Tasmania had seen me speaking at an event,” she said.

“She said to the casting people ‘There’s this girl in Hobart and she ticks all those boxes’.

“‘She needs a husband!’,” Love joked.

The 28 year old says it was still a big decision whether or not to go through with the show.

“I struggled with it, it was definitely the hardest decision of my life to date deciding whether to do it or not,” she said.

“I am a big believer in everything happening for a reason and opportunities presenting themselves to you when the time is right and because you should take them.”

For The Bachelorette, she says she had a moment where she realised it must have come up for a reason.

“I was at a point in my life where I wasn’t in a relationship. I had prioritisied work for so long and moved away from partners for work which again I absolutely don’t regret because I put my job first and I wanted to do that and I am proud of that,” she said.

“But I was at this point – my mum was very sick and I was looking to see whether I should be moving back to be with her anyway and that would have affected work, so when this opportunity came to me I thought ‘This must be for the greater good’.

“So I kind of trusted in the world and went with the signs. I think it paid off – at least it did in my personal life anyway!”
