Here in the Mamamia office, we’re pretty big Friends fans.
So, you can imagine why we found this video to be a little bit jarring.
Friends. Without the laugh track. Not funny and, dare we say, a little bit creepy:
Wait… so is Friends actually a funny TV show? Or have we just been conned by Hollywood’s canned laughter?
So many questions.
Did Friends with no laugh track freak you out, too?

This is why I love NBC comedies (30 Rock, Parks & Rec, Community, etc... and Episodes, as mentioned below!) - they don't need canned laughter to tell the audiences when to laugh as though, "oh, look, that was a joke, just in case you missed it!" If you're not sharp enough to understand the joke/reference, then bad luck. Also usually takes multiple viewings to pick up on them all!
I appreciate that sitcoms like Friends and Seinfeld were filmed in front of live audience like SNL is, but Two and a Half Men/Big Bang/How I Met Your Mother aren't. That's added laughter post-production.
Big Bang is filmed in front of a live audience, and it's not canned laughter. I went on a tour of Warner Brothers Studio and saw the set.
LURRVE Friends, always have always will. Funny with or without background laughter.
My brother and I do a lot of Friends anecdotal gestures or jokes(the fist-thing that Ross and Monica do)!
