French singer dies during live concert after collapsing on stage.

An up-and-coming French singer has died after collapsing on stage during a live concert in the south of France.

Barbara Weldens was performing in the village of Goudron in Southern France as a part of the Léo Ferré Festival on Thursday evening when she suffered a cardiac arrest.

Emergency service workers were unable to revive the singer at the scene.

While cause of death has yet to be determined for the 35-year-old performer who won a Pic D’Or prize for her 2016 debut studio album, ‘Le grand H de l’homme’,  local newspaper, Le Monde has reported Weldens was electrocuted as she performed at the church venue during a storm.

Another local news outlet, Le Depeche has published the singer, who has a circus background was performing barefoot at the time of the incident.

The organisers of the Pic D’Or prize have expressed their sympathies over the passing of their 2016 recipient, saying they are “deeply disturbed”.

“Our team is deeply disturbed by the brutal disappearance of the artist who had appeared on the stage of the Theater des Nouveaux on 20 May, during our last edition,” they said.

“She was a radiant woman, talented and full of energy, and of course we are thinking of all her family and her loved ones.”

In a statement made to L’Europe1, a spokesperson for the music venue said they would investigate the possible electrical malfunction and “will see in the next weeks if a re-evaluation is necessary”.
