At 23 years of age, aspiring bikini model and self-confessed “fitness enthusiast” Cheyann Shaw was diagnosed with cancer.
Just one month before her wedding, Cheyann was told she was battling ovarian cancer after an unexpected trip to the emergency room.
“I never in a million years thought this would happen to me, especially since I am only 23, but I know I will win this battle,” she wrote when she was diagnosed in August this year.
Since her diagnosis, Cheyann has been sharing inspirational photographs of her chemotherapy sessions and her commitment to her passion for fitness with her 180,000 followers.
Last week, she revealed to her fans that after three rounds of chemotherapy and major surgery, she had lost a staggering 12 kilograms.
“This is hard for me to post…[on the left is] before I knew I had cancer…[on the right] taken yesterday,” she wrote alongside the before and after pictures.
“After almost 14 days in the hospital, a poop bag, and a major surgery; I stand at 105lbs. That’s way too small for me,” she continued.
“I lost everything. Cancer has taken so much from me. The body I worked so hard for two years to get, the ability to have and carry my own child, my hair, and so much more, but one thing for sure is that cancer has not taken my fight and faith.”
Cheyann revealed she would “never let cancer win”.
“This is the toughest battle I have and will ever face, but I know I can do it. The hardest part of all this is my body change. I have a hard time looking at myself in the mirror but I’m learning to love myself again and I know this is only temporary.”
When she first revealed her diagnosis, she wrote, “I never in a million years thought this would happen to me.”
“I would be lying if I told you I wasn’t scared, because I’m scared shitless. I will not let cancer win,” she wrote.
“My spirit is not going to dim and I am going to live my life and fight this battle… Now it’s my time to fight, fight for my life, and let me tell you; cancer has f***ed with the wrong person.”
