Proof that arguments against female sport are utterly ridiculous.

Cop THAT, boys.

Unfortunately, it is one of the most common (and invalid) arguments faced in women’s sport. Why don’t women get paid as much as men? ‘Because they’re not as good.’

Why don’t women’s sporting events draw big crowds? ‘Because they’re not as good.’

Why don’t we see women’s sport on TV? ‘Because they’re not as good.’

Well, Spanish soccer player Brenda Perez has thrown that entire argument out the window in spectacular style. For television program El Hormiguero, Perez, who has played for Espanyol and Valencia women’s sides, underwent a full on man-make-over.

They gave her a wig, a beard, and a latex face mask and sent her out to play against a group of men.

And she ran absolute RINGS around them.

Watch Brenda Perez’s display of skill here:

She dribbled in and around the opposition, she scored goals, and her footwork proved frustrating enough to force one opponent to give away a free kick.

The best bit?

Undoubtedly the look on the men’s faces when they realised they had just been annihilated by a women.

Priceless.

Brenda, you have just won yourself a new legion of fans.

This proof is embarrassing on so many levels.

It has nothing to do with "not being as good". Its all to do with corporate sponsorship money. More money is paid to sponsor Males in sports such as soccer, basketball etc because the market for it is larger. Why should Females get paid more in certain sports when they dont draw as big of a crowd or generate as much sponsorship money as their male counterparts?? Its like asking why Male Netballers dont get paid as much as females and arguing about why it isn't on TV. Argument is dead.

This is correct, ultimately it is about tv ratings. One legitimate issue though is that tv boards are male dominated and have bias when negotiating these deals. For example in the US the women's world cup soccer rated significantly higher than the men's world cup, but this wasn't reflected in the TV rights which effects the players earnings. So while most women's sport doesn't rate as high as men's it is important to not be just stuck in the mentality of women rate less.

True, that was a match involving USA held in North America, which is why they got the ratings (I think it was only the final that rated higher??).
But you raise a good point, they got more ratings, they should be paid more for it, especially in something like that where it was almost certain that the women's US team would outperform the men.

That's right. The women's soccer team is one of the best in the world and it was fairly predictable they would go a long way. It's hard to know who is to blame, the TV exec's who will obviously pay as little as possible to get the rights, or FIFA the rights holders who should be demanding more money. It seems like just short shortsightedness all round.

Noooo! Argument not dead! MM will have to rehash this issue at least twice more between now and New Year.
