The most bizarre contraption in Elle Macpherson's handbag.

Well this is interesting.

Supermodel Elle Macpherson has addmitted to carrying a urine tester kit in her bag on a day to day basis.

Speaking to The London Evening Standard,  51-year-old Macpherson was asked what the most surprising thing in her handbag was. Her answer? A stick to wee on.

Elle. Two months ago.

But not for fun. To find out what she can or can't eat.

The mother-of-two said she carries the pH balance urine tester kit  "to check that I’m in an alkaline state. I believe that most ailments come from having an acidic body.”

Yes, we would say that is pretty suprising. The pH balance tests her bodies aciditiy helps fight sickness and disease. It also helps her keep in shape.  Macpherson has been following the alkaline diet for a few years.

So what is it? According to Health & Beauty site The Glow, Nutritionist Dr. Joanna McMillan says:

The alkaline diet reduces your risk of many chronic diseases including cancer and have stronger bones.

The theory is that the typical modern Western diet is affecting the acid load on the body, with knock-on negative health effects. Foods that we eat are either acid forming or alkaline forming, with some being more or less neutral. The diet advises limiting the consumption of acid-forming foods, including meat, dairy, highly processed foods, alcohol, grain products and refined sugar (although this is actually not acid or base producing).

Acidity and alkalinity is measured using pH on a scale of 1-14. Neutral is a pH of 7, below 7 indicates acidity and above 7 alkaline. Our blood is slightly alkaline and although it can vary very slightly, the body has sensitive systems to ensure it stays in the range of 7.35-7.45.

Veggies and water can affect the levels.

The lingerie designer also told the Standard that she eats three square meals a day (either shape or size - we're not sure) that avoid wheat and read meat. Her guilty pleasures are:  “Green & Black’s dark chocolate, digestive biscuits and Marmite.”

Extreme? Perhaps.
