There was only one woman at Johnny Depp's movie premiere who wasn't taking a photo of him.

There’s something different about this photo…

This photo is of a group of spectators at the premiere of Johnny Depp’s new movie that’s going viral.

The reason? It shows the stark contrast between a person who is living in the moment and other people who live out their memories via their smartphones.

While everyone around her has their smartphones out in a desperate attempt to snap a pixilated image of the left side of Johnny Depp’s face, the woman behind the barricade is the only one actually embracing what is happening in front of her. 

The photo received a huge amount of attention after a Twitter user uploaded it with the caption “this is my new favorite photo of all time”.

Since being uploaded last week, the photo has been retweeted more than 11,000 times and favourited more than 13,000 times.

Its popularity is a fairly good indication of many people’s awareness of our dependence on technology, and the fear that it is compromising our enjoyment of day-to-day events.

A similar photo made the rounds on social media a couple of years ago when someone compared the arrival of the Pope in St Peter’s Square in 2005 to 2013.

Although these photos may reflect personality traits that we’re not proud of ourselves, they act as a a stark reminder of the importance of putting down our phones every now and then, and just taking in the moment instead.

If only for a couple of minutes.
