A ride operator at The Sydney Royal Easter Show has been arrested, after a woman allegedly witnessed him commit an act of indecency towards her 2-year-old daughter.
Police will allege that the 50-year-old man performed the undisclosed offence against the young girl while she was on a carnival ride on Monday. The toddler’s mother reported the incident to police and later to the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW, the organisers of the annual show.
The man was then arrested on Tuesday afternoon, following a brief police investigation.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the alleged perpetrator was an employee of the ride owner and had previously passed the relevant police checks required of all Easter Show employees working with minors.
According to a spokesperson for the Sydney Royal Easter Show, the man was immediately banned from the Sydney Olympic Park precinct once charges were laid by police.
“The Show is extremely disappointed and places patron safety as the number one priority of the Show,” said the spokesperson. “The Show works closely with NSW Police to provide a safe environment for all Showgoers.”
The accused will appear before Auburn Local Court on April 12.
