Shelbi has a "dirty" method for getting $480 of designer makeup, without paying a cent.

If you’re sick of spending your hard earned clams on exxy eyeshadow palettes, YouTuber Shelbizleee has the solution for you.

The 23-year-old from Oakland, California, has a peculiar way of building up her designer makeup collection – and it doesn’t cost her a thing.

In her latest expedition, Shelbi got her mitts on two Urban Decay Full Spectrum Eyeshadow palettes (AU$104), a Revlon Colourstay Foundation (AU$20.99), a LORAC Natural Performance Foundation (AU$48), an Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation (AU$65.00), two Too Faced Born This Way Foundations (AU$114), a Cargo Blush in Mendocino (AU$34.76), the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland Eyeshadow Palette (AU$69.52), AND a Kendra Light Hold Hairspray (AU$24.07).

That’s $480.34 of makeup. But for Shelbi? It was entirely free.

“I find [my makeup] in dumpsters,” the makeup enthusiast shared with her 35,000 subscribers earlier this month. “I sanitise the items that I find.”

Sure, some of the products Shelbi discovers out the back of makeup stores have dents or scratches (almost everything she finds are products that customers have returned after a single use, the rest are testers) but they are totally fine for reuse, she says.

“[I like] getting down and dirty to get glammed up,” she writes on Instagram.

While cream products or liquid lipstick can’t be properly sanitised, other makeup products can be quickly and easily cleaned with rubbing alcohol, Shelbi says.

To bring her products up to scratch, the beauty blogger uses cotton pads, a spray bottle of sanitising alcohol, a bottle of 91 per cent isopropyl alcohol, cue tips, and makeup brush cleaner.

And if you don’t like the idea of rummaging through rubbish to find a few makeup products?

“If you think this is gross, I could not care less,” Shelbi said in a vlog of her ‘dumpster diving’.

“I think this is awesome, I think what I’m doing is good for the planet, and if you have a different opinion, whatever. Just don’t watch it.”
