Woman in wheelchair stabbed in neck after Bega shopping centre argument

A woman in a wheelchair has been stabbed at a shopping centre in country New South Wales following an argument, police say.

A 27-year-old woman is due to appear in court today over the stabbing, which happened in Bega just after 1pm on Saturday.

Police allege a 42-year-old woman and the 27-year-old woman began arguing in an elevator at the centre.

The 27-year-old woman allegedly returned to her vehicle to retrieve a weapon before returning to the shopping centre and continuing the fight with the older woman, who was in a wheelchair.

She allegedly stabbed the other woman in the neck before fleeing the scene.

Officers said the two women were known to each other.

Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before she was taken to South East Regional Hospital with critical injuries.

She was then airlifted to Canberra Hospital for further treatment and is now said to be in a critical but stable condition.

Officers said the 27-year-old woman handed herself and the weapon into Bega Police Station later in the day.

She was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder.

She was refused bail to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court.
