Yes please: MTV are rebooting our 90s faves Daria and The Real World.

Prepare to get excited. Our fave 90s show Daria is coming back to our screens!

MTV have announced that they are rebooting the beloved animated sitcom under their new production unit MTV Studios.

According to Deadline, the new series, named Daria & Jodie will be “reinvented through the eyes of heroine Daria Morgendorffer and one of her closet friends Jodie Landon”.

Much like the original series, which was loved for its cynical take on the world, the new series will follow Daria and Jodie as they “take on the world with their signature satirical voice while deconstructing popular culture, social classes, gender and race”.

The new series will be written by Grace Edwards, who has previously worked on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Inside Amy Schumer.

MTV Studios, who are leading the Daria reboot, are focusing on television revivals – so we can expect loads more reboots to come.

In addition to Daria, MTV Studios are also set to reboot 90s reality TV series The Real World and self-improvement reality show Made.

Sci-fi anime drama series Aeon Flux, will also be rebooted as a live action show.

According to MTV president Chris McCarthy, there's also a possibility of a Laguna Beach reboot in the future.

But don't expect to see all these titles on MTV.

Many of MTV Studios' upcoming titles are being pitched to streaming services like Netflix and Apple.

Although there's no word yet on when Daria & Jodie is coming to our screens – you can binge-watch all five seasons of the original series on Stan.

Which is all you need to do anyway. The original series finished at a natural point for a show set around high school students - Daria's graduation. We don't need to see a 40-year-old Daria, nor do we need to see a reimagined Gen Z Daria. Her cynicism was a quintessentially 90s thing. You cannot put it into a modern day context without completely changing the character. At that point, you might as well just make a new show but everyone seems to have forgotten how to do that.

People need to stop rebooting and ruining original series. Daria and Jodie? What about Jane??

Can't have 2 people the same in there, we need Jodie, she's..... a leader.

The original series was so quintessentially 1990's - the cynicism and mood just won't transfer through to today (sadly). The only element of Daria that Milennials would identify with would be Quinn and the Fashion Club - which they would think was totally serious and a life goal (and not satire).

Agree but you're thinking of Gen Z, not Millennials. The oldest Millennials are 37 now. We watched Daria the first time around.

You're right, though I tend to mentally split the official "Millennial" group into Gen Y (the older demographic of which you speak, who arguably have more in common with Gen X), and the far more self-absorbed, annoying younger half. ;)
