The real reason so many women use a couple shot as their Facebook profile pic.

Who is in your Facebook profile picture?

Is it just you? A few of the girls? You and your kids?

…Is it you and your partner?

Because, if it’s the last one, Mandy Stadtmiller from XO Jane is not too happy with you. She’s sick of seeing Facebook profile pictures, which do not just depict the person whose name they appear next to.

In her article titled ‘Dear Women Who Are Using A Couple Shot As Your Facebook Profile Photo, I Get It: You Win‘, Stadtmiller surveyed her Facebook friends to find out why people choose to have a picture with their partner as their Facebook profile picture.

This is what she found:

I tallied the responses and overwhelmingly people told me — more than anything else — they used a coupled picture because of gratitude for their partner. Which is totally sweet. TOTALLY. But it also leads me to believe that no one is ever going to be fully honest about my survey.

I mean, come on. The same way if I post some humblebraggy crap about my career (who is my husband), it is the exact same thing as your smug profile pic in your $50,000 wedding gown making out with your husband for all of perpetuity.

Which is cool. You win the married sweepstakes. I get it.

Stadtmiller calls those who use the couple shot as their profile photo the Super Power Couple.

You know the ones. They say ‘we’ instead of ‘I’ when expressing an opinion anything and everything. They attend parties as a unit, or not at all. They sometimes, heaven forbid, share an email address.

They do absolutely everything together, are very much in love. And they want everyone to know about it.

But – is Stadtmiller really being fair?

Is a profile picture shared with your partner really the ultimate humblebrag? Or could it be that these people just happen to like the way they look in that particular photo, and their partner just happens to be there too? Or is it simply about the fact your partner is often who you spend most of your time with and tends to feature heavily in all your photos?

Over to you? Are you a Super Power Couple? Or is your profile picture just you on your lonesome being awesome?

This woman sounds a little bitter to me! As a teenager I would use a couple PIC to tell other girls in a subtle way to back off him!! Lol. But as a mature adult I have a profile PIC that I like. Mostly photos just of me but the occasional one of me and my sister, my best friend and yes, my boyfriend. I'm not bragging or being jealous (anymore!) Its simply a recent photo, of us up a mountain with our house in the distance behind us. We both look super happy and my father even commented what a lovely photo it is. (A rarity) so no, we are not joined at the hip, I just look good in that photo! Sounds like you need to be more happy for people that are happy instead of jealous. You can have that happy couple photo to if you believe it!

I have my fb profile pic as me and my partner. He's my best friend and lover. Its actually an adorable pic LOL. Its bullshit when she says that people who have their profile pic of them and their partner are always saying "we" instead of "I". LOL. I'm still very independantly opinionated!
