'My husband and I let strangers watch us have sex for less than $10.'

There is a deeply sexual and private community of people performing sexual acts for an audience online. They are known as ‘cammers’ and their on-screen exploits can earn them thousands if they’re smart about it.

One woman revealed to YourTango how she and her husband screened an evening of public debauchery for the low price of $8 to around 380 viewers.

“In our living room, it’s just us, naked, talking to a bunch of strangers cheering us on,” she wrote.

The first-time cammer said their time in the homemade spotlight came after a long time of simply watching others.

“We can spend hours watching couples on camera pleasure each other and interact with their tippers. But after weeks of watching, you start thinking to yourself, ‘We could do this,'” she wrote.

“Then one night your partner turns to you and says, ‘I want to f*ck you with the whole world watching.’ So we did.”

The woman described how other cammers perform acts to the audience's request so long as they are "tipped" to do so.

The tipping system is described as a central source of income for those who choose to turn themselves and the camera on.

"We gave away a lot for free our first night, making only $8 the whole night. The top cammers of the night probably walked away with hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars," she said.

The viewer-come-performer described how the audience of her online world no longer felt like "strangers" after that first night.

The couple uses the camming platform of 'Chaturbate' to screen their private shows. Another performer who uses Chaturbate explained how he and his partner earn cash in a frequently-asked-questions style blog.

"You get fifty percent (or more!) of all your broadcast earnings," he wrote.

"After they take their cut, twenty tokens are worth a dollar for you, so you will make a hundred dollars if you earn 2000 tokens. The more tokens you earn, is the more money you get. There is no limit."

Online guides that instruct future performers how they can make money as webcam models insist they thoroughly research the websites they'd like to appear on before signing up.

It is also recommended they have a deep understanding of the industry and of what may be expected of them.
