Steve 'Commando' Willis gets schooled by his daughter for being 'scary'. We can't stop watching.

Former Biggest Loser trainer Steve “Commando” Willis has appeared in an ad campaign with his daughter, Ella, for a Garmin fitness product.

Willis, partner of health and fitness guru Michelle Bridges, begins the ad with a characteristically tough spiel. He says “Australia, enough is enough. It’s time to be held accountable. How much time have you been spending inactive watching TV? How many steps have you taken today? I bet…”

We are then introduced to eight-year-old Ella Willis, who interrupts her dad’s aggressive monologue with “Dad, you’re scaring everybody!”

She insists that "moving can be fun too, you know" before asking her dad to "check out my Vivo Fit Junior".

Speaking with Mumbrella, Willis, 40, described Ella as "a natural in front of the camera" and the perfect role model for other kids.

He said, “I reminded Ella that it’s not just about having your face on the TV screen or on a picture, there has to be deeper meaning and purpose to this. To an eight-year-old that may not mean a whole lot, but asking those questions of her will help her realise that she is doing this to help other less fortunate kids, and to encourage those that might not be that active to get active.”

The ad is part of a series featuring the pair, where Willis' aggressive style is contrasted with Ella's excitement for exercise.

Willis told Mumbrella that the campaign is not so much about selling the Garmin Vivo Fit Junior product, as it is about encouraging people to get active. He said “This device for children and the products I represent are designed for people to create better versions of themselves.”

Interestingly, research indicates that Ella's approach is likely far more effective than Willis'. The Biggest Loser has received heavy criticism since it's inception, with claims it bullies people into weight loss, and contestants rarely keep the weight off.

Willis and Bridges have both chosen to "opt out" of the 2017 Biggest Loser series.

However, Willis is now fronting a Biggest Loser-style content series for Garmin entitled "Commando Raids", where he shows up unexpected and raids the pantry of overweight men and women. He refers to them as "disgusting" and uses humiliation as a tactic to shock people into changing their lifestyle habits.

Health advocates argue that tactics such as these do far more harm than good.

Perhaps Willis could learn a lesson or two from Ella.
